Finally received a call back from HICV regarding bulk conversion - she quoted $8K for 45K points as a "deal" for...

Finally received a call back from HICV regarding bulk conversion - she quoted $8K for 45K points as a "deal" for existing weeks owners ($180/1K points) compared to retail price of $260/1K points.  However, she said that you can only convert one fixed week you already own through this process per purchase (updated policy within the last couple of years), and then anything else you purchase in the next 60 days.  

If this is the case (can anyone confirm?) seems like the best bet would be to put one fixed week in the name of the main HICV account holder any anything else you want to convert into a family member's name - then you'd have to do deed transfers into your main account after retail purchase.

You' d have to pay an extra set of resort transfer fees, but this seems to be the only way you'd be able to purchase multiple fixed weeks with low maintenance fees on the cheap in a short time and do a single conversion.

Was just thinking about the ramifications of not getting status with resale purchases...you might be better off buying RCI Weeks and doing Points for Deposit to get more points rather than buying units at HICV points resorts, which typically have higher maintenance fees than RCI Weeks...I wasn't interested in going that route before because I wanted status benefits (free upgrades, free reservations, early access to Signature), but it sounds like I need to relook at this.....

I've created a new spreadsheet to track maintenance reported in Ebay listings vs. HICV points ranges.  The ones in yellow are the non-points resort/unit combos with 4 or more weeks with maintenance under $4.2/1K points.  I'm considering buying 1M points of such units and then paying HICV $7K for a retail unit and bulk conversion to get me 1M points at $4.2K/year in maintenance.  

If you have maintenance for any units missing from the chart (especially ones with 4+ weeks under $4.2/1K points), let me know and I'll update.

HICV charges $300/1K annual points

I will sell Lake Geneva/Gatlinburg/South Beach timeshares for $20/1K annual points (including closing costs) and I will buy them for $10/1K annual points (including closing costs, assuming maintenance < $6/1K points).  I have 325K annual points currently available for sale!

Called today and found out that biennial units do not count at all towards status :(

They said preferred status for the last 2 weeks was in error.

I'm at 250K annual and 150K odd, so I as hoping for at least status in odd years - should have booked my free reservation and upgrade when I had the chance :(

If they have their Holiday Inn Account#/Contract# they can send that - otherwise they can provide their name, unit, and week.

Hopefully I can get the old owner to do that - they told me how many points were remaining before the sale but said they couldn't guarantee they would transfer and now that the transfer is complete, I have no leverage :(

If they transfer, I wonder if they'll show up on the correct contract or just some random place in the account?  If not on the correct contract (I'm pretty sure that when a transaction had a problem on the website that borrowed points from one contract were returned to the first contract on the account), the I wonder if it's possible to transfer points between members in other circumstances?  If anyone wants to try to transfer 50K points to me, I'd be willing to pay $5/1K. :)

Woohoo, 2016 points showed up this afternoon.

Woohoo, 2016 points showed up this afternoon.  Looks like the unused 2015 points that the previous owner said were available did not transfer - maybe because some were already used.  I've had current year points transfer on 1/2 previous annual units, but maybe that's because the whole year's points were still available.  Not sure how that works - maybe I'll call tomorrow and ask.  It's also possible remaining points from the current year just take longer to show up on the account.

online, etc. before I could get any action.

I really don't see why this should take more than a few days.

Called HICV this morning to check on points, and I was informed that it takes 6 weeks for points to show up on account AFTER the contract shows up on the account! Ugghhh!  Purchased the unit on 3/31 and won't be able to book using those points until early July!
