Oh, forgot to ask, we were told also that 3rd party sells were now charged to bring into your account, to fight the ebay, etc sells by HICV. IIRC, something like $1 per ten points as a one time fee if you bought a used property and wanted to integrate it into the points. Sales guy said it went into effect April of 2017.

Also, he said we couldn't use that buy in to convert our SIlverleaf.

Did I get duped or anyone have documentation around this?

Thanks

  1. Prior to April of 2017, HICV would let you make a small purchase (e.g. 15K Lake Geneva) and convert multiple fixed weeks to points. My understanding is they now have minimum purchase requirements based on what is in your account similar to the levels you mentioned - I believe the way they enforce this is by denying small purchases vs. charging fees. I have no idea why Silverleaf units would be excluded.

What has not changed is the way resale works at points resorts - you can buy a property at Lake Geneva, South Beach, or Smoky Mountain and get points without any HICV purchase, but they will not give you status permanently (many times you will get a 6-month trial of status). If you own a 1M points at a points resorts, you can either live without status or buy a high end $100K signature unit to get Elite status, in which case it will take you decades to recover your investment with $100K in Elite benefits.

  2. Thanks for the clarification, makes sense on their business side.

I wonder how much the business managers have as leeway during a sale, to affect this policy. Probably depends on how much you are spending and how bad they need the sale.

  3. Charles Goldsmith I agree - I think that it's a policy that they can break to make you a "once in a lifetime" offer. If you can get a sales guy to sign off on it, I believe that the same 15K Lake Geneva purchase will convert everything you own just like it did before April 2017. I think the changes are all policy and not system.

  4. Since April '17, I had an offer to convert 290k in resale points to give me status for @$6500. So I support Scott's belief that they can go against their policy and offer you a deal.

  8. Joseph Stern I do HICV internal exchanges only - every time I look in RCI I can't find anything.
