If you buy a timeshare from someone at a points resort, you will be the new owner after the deed is transferred, which will give you points and the maintenance bill each year. Theoretically, you can add your name to a deed at a non-points resort and get the points added to your account, but it's not very common - I've never done it and if you are going through a third party for closing, it typically won't work.
Just take over the maintenance. Transfer the points to my account.
