Acquiring extra HICV points all from HICV to get status has a best case cost of about 14 cents/ extra point (+$1000 closing) with a minimum of around $12.2K for 80K points - the problem is that if you needed twice that many points, the price is almost twice as much. Resale purchase followed by a small HICV purchase are more like 1 cent/point (+$11000 closing/HICV small purchase) at the high end.
Maintenance. availability, and disposing of existing units are other considerations - purchasing all from HICV, $4/1K maintenance is possible, there is immediate availability, and you can get rid of high maintenance units. The resale path can achieve similar maintenance but it will likely take a while to locate them (say 50K points/month) - $5.5/1K maintenance units are widely available. The resale path does not dispose of existing units, so you'd have to give them away and purchase more resale points at 1 cent/point.

ReplyDeleteJerry Ackerman Prior to the cost increase to convert resale unit, you could get Elite status for about $21K through resale + small HICV purchase vs. $140K if you bought all 1M points from the developer. That's no longer the case now.
