Just returned from the desert club las vegas. Went to the Owner update and got the following info. Take it for what its worth - I don't believe at least half of what they tell me.
The Silverlake owners will not be offered HICV buy in.
Desert Club owners that bought it to HICV will soon be shut out.
I will soon be restricted to just the specific weeks that I bought. (I own two weeks, one is week 32? and is in HICV -169K - and one is week 48.).
The salesman indicated that he recently paid 12,000 for 169K points at desert club.
I didn't believe any of it. But who knows. I have owned in las Vegas since it was summer bay across the street. Got into the HICV and the extra br when they moved. Bought another week just for the holidays. Love them. Total investment (including HICV) $111.25
Just thought I'd share what was told at the owners update (AKA sales meeting).
I
ReplyDeleteScott, I'm not sure what they were trying to do this time. I mentioned that the residual value of any of these things was minimal and was told that he recently purchased those points - on ebay. He certainly implied that these were "real" points. His point was that the secondary market was strong indeed.
A year ago they tried to upgrade my weeks - as I am within 7K of VIP status if both of my weeks were points. I have more than enough for my purposes and while buying and converting might be a good idea for someone that desired to use more - it was of little use to me.
I like my holiday week (I use it on new years every year) and my 169K points - often used through RCI 15K/week and I own a vacation home (near Tahoe) that I use for nearly 5 months a year. Add in a couple of weeks of camping and another couple for visiting family/friends and I don't really know when I would use more.
I love HICV and Desert Club. Visited Gatlinburgh (club) and RCI - Manhattan, San Diego, Reno, and Tahoe.
If my ownership reverts to just the deeded weeks - I'll reevaluate. But, in the meantime, I don't take too much of the sales pitch to heart.
How was RCI - Manhattan, was considering that. Hotels in Manhattan are always pricey.
ReplyDeleteManhattan club was excellent. The units (I had a 1BR) are small, it is after all NY, but very nice. The kitchen is a bit small but not impossible and the location is unbeatable - though I understand that the Carnegi deli has closed.
ReplyDeleteMy brother and I and both of our significant others stayed there for a week. We loved it. After staying in three other Manhattan hotels that nearly break my vacation budget (and were at best inadequate) this was a pleasant find.
